David Tronzo Select Discography David Tronzo has been voted among the "Top 100 Guitarists of the 20th Century" and the "Top Ten Jazz Guitarists" by Musician Magazine; "Best Guitarist in NYC" by the New York Press; and, most recently, Tronzo was one of thirty musicians worldwide to receive a nomination for the CalArts Alpert Award in the Arts for music. Tronzo's unique playing style has resulted in an innovative body of extended techniques for the slide guitar: fluid single lines, finger-behind-the-slide chords and harmonic slaps, using plastic cups, rags, pencils and wires. Tronzo has toured extensively worldwide with such artists as John Lurie, John Haitt, Reeves Gabrels, Jerry Granelli, Michael Blake, and the Tronzo Trio. His slide guitar can be heard in Robert Altman's film Shortcuts and in Morco Brambilla's Excess Baggage. He has also recorded and toured with Wayne Horvitz and the President, John Cale, Marshall Crenshaw, Mike Manieri, David Sanborn, Hassan Hakmoun, Foday Suso and countless others. Tronzo is currently on staff at Berklee College of Music in Boston, an Artist-in-Residence at Haystack Mountain in Maine and the Halifax Jazz Workshop, a Visiting Artist at HDK in Berlin Germany. He resides in New Hampshire, with his wife and cat and is touring and recording in a solo format as well as with The Tronzo Trio, The Tronzo/Herbert Duo and a new project, "V-16".
