Peter Scott Lewis
Where the Heart is Pure

Peter Scott Lewis was born in 1953 in San Rafael, California, and grew up in both the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington State. He received his Bachelor's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music while studying composition with Andrew Imbrie, and his Master's degree from the Yale University School of Music while studying composition with Jacob Druckman and Morton Subotnick, and conducting with Arthur Weisberg. He has also taught music at both the University of Washington and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

A recipient of numerous grants and awards, Lewis has been commissioned and/or performed by the Abel-Steinberg-Winant Trio; Alexander String Quartet; Berkeley Symphony, Kent Nagano and Robert Hughes, conductors; Chamber Symphony of Princeton, Alice Artzt, soloist; San Francisco Concerto Orchestra; Seattle's Intiman Theater; and David Tanenbaum, guitar, among many others. His music has also been performed throughout the United States and Europe, and has been broadcasted over National Public Radio.

In addition to his many compositions for various chamber ensembles and solo instruments, Lewis has also composed several works for orchestra. They include his "Violin Concerto"; "Guitar Concerto"; Cello Concerto"; and "Where the Heart is Pure" for soprano and chamber orchestra.
